Massachusetts Nutrient Density Field Trainings Project |
|
The Massachusetts Nutrient Density Field Trainings Project of the Northeast Nutrient Density Network will be taking place soon and is co-sponsored by the Real Food Campaign.
Times and Locations:
Sunday September 13th, 9AM-5PM with Mark Fulford at Simple Gifts Farm
Location: 1089 N. Pleasant St, Amherst MA 01002
Monday September 14th 9AM-5PM with Mark Fulford at Lindentree Farm
Location: 10 Old Concord Road Lincoln, MA 01773
Overview-
"Have you heard about biological farming techniques that improve brix
levels, nutritional content, yield, flavor and shelf life?
Would you like to learn practical techniques for achieving these improvements in the field from an experienced professional? During the 2009 growing season, the Northeast Nutrient Density Network, which is a collaboration between NOFA/Mass and RFC, is holding workshops at Simple Gifts Farm in Amherst and Lindentree Farm in Lincoln led by Mark Fulford. Both farms are initiating biological fertility programs for the 2009 season."

Advanced Field Training on Crop Nutrition and Biological Management
From the two-days of this field training, you will:
- Receive hands-on training with the refractometer, conductivity and pH
meters, penetrometer, and flame weeder.
- Learn to build mineral amendment recipes in small batches, using
appropriate tools.
- Identify and index weeds for the nutritional imbalances they
indicate.
- Conduct proper soil sampling for soil tests and compare soil testing
paradigms to the fieldevidence.
- Assess soil test results and past crop performance.
- Be shown management practices using dry, liquid, and foliar recipes
that can steer crops toward foliage health or initiate fruiting and root
development.
- Gain knowledge of various amendment sources and reasons for selecting
them for different crops.

35th Annual Summer NOFA Conference |
|
The 35th Annual Summer NOFA Conference
August 7-9th, 2009 At University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA
Dan Kittredge will have workshop on Saturday, August 8th, from 8:00 to 9:30 AM at the Campus Center, 174-76.
Overview:
*A Paradigm Shift: Concepts Necessary for the Production of Nutrient Dense
Crops*
Daniel Kittredge: Director of the Real Food Campaign,
www.realfoodcampaign.org.
Maximizing crop nutrition and yield are only possible when the biological system is understood and intelligently managed. This workshop will lay out the concepts and logistics underlaying the production of NDC. We will focus on nutrient density, limiting factors in biological systems, principles and science behind transcending weed, insect and disease issues, protein
synthesis and proteolysis, soil microbial and fungal dominance, ergs/paramagnetism and soil energy flow. Flavor and quality increase with nutrient density.

Rundlett Middle School, 144 South Street, Concord, NH
March 7, 2009, 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM
Building Community - Many Hands, Many Voices
The Northeast Organic Farming Association will be having its 7th Annual Winter Conference on March 7, from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The one day conference will offer 37 workshops for organic
farmers, gardeners, homesteaders, and consumers. The conference will also
